The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones. And he led me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry. And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God, you know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live.”Ezekiel 37:1-14
Revival is first and last a work of the Holy Spirit of God. First, the Spirit of Jesus leads you to look and see the dry bones. We often go through our days in turmoil and worry, fretting what lies ahead. We wonder why God allows all this worry and frustration and trouble, yet we are blind to our dry bones!
When did you last read, really read with time and passion, God’s holy word, asking the Holy Spirit to give you His living words of life? When did you bow in quiet humble prayer quieting your soul so to hear life giving encouragement from the Savior’s lips?
Oh brother or sister, let me ask you plainly. Are you simply going through the motions? Are you saying the right words and going to church and sitting and singing but nothing happens in your heart? Are your prayers bouncing off the ceiling? Is your spirit dry as dust?
God is life and He is the Great Life Giver! The One who gave you life, who created you in His image, who will give you your next breath as you read this devotion, will also pour out rivers of living water over your dry bones! Oh, believe it! A dry bone coming to life is nothing short of a miracle of God! He and He alone can do it!
God looks at you and asks you the question of faith: “Can these dry bones live?” Hear God’s word to you today! “Behold I will cause breath (life) to enter you, and you shall live!”
First, be sure you are saved. Jesus died and gave His blood on the cross to kill the sin disease that kept your bones dry – that kept you spiritually dead. He promises that to all who call on Him He will give the right to be called children of God, even those who believe in His Name. If you have never done so, cry out to Jesus to be your Savior today.
Then humbly ask Him to bring life to your dry bones! Then and only then, extend your prayer to ask Christ to bring life to our church, our city and nation.
