John and Mary Tanzania update

Tanzania Mission Trip 2020

Habari gani toka Tanzania!
(Hello from Tanzania)

Wow!  What an amazing time watching God work in Tanzania through Pastor Michael’s ministry and how much more amazing that the Lord allowed us to be a part of it.  Thanks for joining us in His work!

Here are some highlights:

  • We got to share individually, John shared the gospel with Maasai leaders and Mary with the Massai women
  • John had the joy of baptizing six new believers coming out of the Muslim faith
  • Extreme joy sharing at a school Pastor Michael began in a 98% Muslim community.  Mary shared the wordless book gospel message with over 100 children through colored T-shirts, story and song.
  • The national Mom’s In Prayer Tanzanian leader joined Mary and 40 women for training in praying for their children, schools and teachers across the nation.
  • About 30 married couples joined us for an intense, exciting and interactive marriage seminar.
  • Each team member took on a different home fellowship in different locations joined by church leaders.
  • We had great attendance for a two day Pastor’s leadership training seminar ministering to Pastors and wives from across Tanzania and Zanzibar island.

Exciting Moments:

In the Pastor’s training God led me (John) to share a home discipleship series that was immediately well received and is already being used in several church home fellowships across Tanzania.

During widow’s ministry visitation and prayer for an 85 year old brand new believer out of Islam, another woman suddenly appeared also asking prayer for healing.  After I (Mary) prayed with her, I asked “Do you know this Jesus who we are praying to?”  She said, “No”.  I asked if she would like to know who He is.  That conversation led to my sharing the gospel and her receiving Christ.  Incredible joy!

Pastor Michael and the local Christian leadership are doing a remarkable Kingdom work bringing the truth of God’s word to many, especially in the Muslim community to faith in Christ.

Without you, your prayers, support, and the Lord’s calling none of this would have been possible!

Greetings to you all in our wonderful Lord Jesus.

We are safe and well here in Tanzania. We’ve been working hard on getting the right flight back to the US, possibly this weekend. We will be in two week quarantine when we return so no visitors please.

We know things are very difficult for you all right now and of course we our praying for God’s leading and direction and thankful for His constant care and presence through this time.

I’ve been reading many wonderful messages from different Christian leaders including our own pastor Jeff who sent a great one this week.

Here are a few thoughts:

We do not need to fear. it’s time to live out the words we sing to the Lord on Sunday mornings. “In the eye of the storm You remain in control!” As believers in Jesus we will have opportunities to share our trust in the Lord with those around us as a witness. This is a great opportunity!

Many people are sharing wonderful verses from scripture. This is a time to be in the word of God as you will hear his comfort and care and wisdom and direction. I recommend time in the Psalms.

The church needs to be the body of Christ during this time in seeing how the Lord would help us care for one another and meet needs as He directs.

This is a time to go deeper in prayer. Pray not only for your own needs but for our world as we walk through this, for the poor and hurting, for nations most affected by this, and for opportunities for the gospel of Jesus.

Our first call is to love God and others. This is what ABC does so well as we let Christ live his life through us by his Holy Spirit. A theme the Lord gave our elders at the beginning of the year was “Unbound”. This is a time to let your light shine!

We miss you all very much! Pray for our safe return to you. Greet one another with a holy elbow bump!

In Jesus Hands,

Pastor John and Mary

Mary and Pastor John to Africa

DEAR ABC FAMILY – Greetings in the Lord!

God has opened wide an opportunity for us to join a mission trip to Dar Es SalaamTanzania, E. Africa March 3-17, 2020 with a new mission sending organization called Save The Nations Ministries.  This came about as Mary began teaching an STNM couple Swahili.  Dar Es Salaam is the area Mary’s grandparents served, making this an extra special place for us to minister.

We’ll be sharing Jesus with the local community, churches and schools. John will be preaching and training pastors. We’ll also be involved in counseling, prayer, teaching, home visitation, leading a marriage seminar, evangelistic outreach and a day with the local Maasai people.   This is a Muslim community where the veil that covers hearts and minds can yet be transformed by the Lord.  We covet your prayers!

Please Pray For:

  • Team member to be empowered by the Holy Spirit as they minister.
  • Life transformations for those we encounter.
  • Many opportunities for Jesus conversations.
  • To hear the heart need of the people.
  • Health, safety and ability to handle intense heat (90’s/ 90% humidity).

Prayerfully Join our Giving Team!  Give to ABC marked “John and Mary Africa”. The total cost for both of us covering transportation, food and lodging is $4,000. Your support really makes a big difference!

With Joy, Excitement, and Thanks!
